The United captain, who featured in the win at Aldershot on Tuesday and hopes to start against the Toffees after a prolonged spell on the sidelines, says he has been impressed with the players’ attitude in training this week on the back of the 6-1 loss to City.

And he insists the squad are “mentally and physically ready” to bounce back.

“When you lose a derby, especially by that scoreline, it’s difficult to take, but the players have shown character this week,” the Serbian told ManUtd.com.

“We haven’t come to training with our heads down. We have come in and worked harder because we want to play better and improve. This is the right mentality to have to try and get over bad results. They are the positive things that have come from this week.

“When you lose games you can always look at the things that you did wrong and what you can improve. Losing that game was difficult for all the players but it’s important to focus on the next match and look forward. Even when you win you can’t spend time celebrating, you have to focus on the next game.

“Hopefully we can prove that the derby was just one bad day and show how good we are on Saturday.”

Everton may have injury and suspension concerns aplenty, but Vidic says no matter what side David Moyes puts out the Reds will need to be prepared for a real battle.
