Well here's an interesting turn of events. Variety is reporting a scoop tonight that the Coen Brothers have apparently offered Justin Timberlake one of the lead roles in their new film Inside Llewyn Davis. If you recall from past news, the project is about the folk music scene in Greenwich Village in the 1960s, and is already set to star Oscar Isaac as Llewyn Davis, loosely based on folk singer Dave Van Ronk. JT has been on the acting rise recently, and is starring in a lead role in Andrew Niccol's In Time opening this weekend. This may seem like an odd choice, but perhaps not, as he's being offered the role of another folk musician.

The report says that Timberlake has been offered the role of Jim, a folk musician married to Jean, who will be played by Carey Mulligan. StudioCanal is co-financing, with Robert Graf (No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, True Grit) executive producing, and production is set to start early next year in New York City. The film, written and directed by the Coen Brothers, is partly based on Dave Van Ronk's memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street, which chronicles the musicians's time as a larger-than-life presence with a blustery personality to match his big frame, who is known for the famous folk-music haunts and mentoring musicians such rising talents as Bob Dylan. This is just an offer, so we'll let you know if he accepts it or not.
